Just the Scores 2018

The Hex

SHORT REVIEW: PC VERSION

EIGHT

A murder is being planned in the Six Pints Inn and yes, it’s time to solve a mystery. When I say mystery I mean it both mentally and technically as you take control of six very different computer game archetypes and then…

 Game happens.

Spider-Man

SHORT REVIEW: PS4 VERSION

NINE

This isn’t just the definitive Spiderman game,

it’s one of the very best superhero games around.

Overcooked 2

SHORT REVIEW: PC / PS4 VERSION

EIGHT

Overcooked 2 is not the sequel it could have been but there is still nothing quite like it. For each stride there is a stumble so minor only those that have played it to death would notice.

It is still one of the very best co-op experiences around and for those pining for online play your wish has been grated.

Far Cry 5: Hours of Darkness DLC

SHORT REVIEW: XBOX VERSION

EIGHTHours of Darkness has replay-ability written all over it, I love the fact that this small map can give you hours of fun… or minutes depending on how you want to tackle it. And that’s just it, you have so much choice it’ll be hard to put down.

Great as far as DLC goes, if this was a 15 quid stand alone… I’d snap it up.

Dead Cells

SHORT STOLEN REVIEW: PC VERSION

EIGHT

Dead Cells doesn’t deviate from it’s clear purpose and is brimming with potential.

Repetition hones skills and the drip feed of empowerment ensures we utter the phrase “just one more turn”.

Frostpunk

SHORT REVIEW: PC VERSION

NINE

Frostpunk is a whole new way to play a city builder. Mostly with wonderful tension and unpleasant choices galore.

A stress filled job that I’ll forever recommend for fans of short term city planning and a god complex.

Wreckfest

(NOT) SHORT REVIEW: PC VERSION

EIGHT

Tight driving physics and unpredictable chaos make for continual entertainment.

Please drive sensibly and keep your arms in the vehicle at all times… up until a head-on collision.

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection

SHORT REVIEW: PC VERSION

EIGHT

A nearly-definitive collection of some of the best fight games of all time.

I’m sure Capcom will pull the same trick again every 10 years until the end of time.

Deadbolt

SHORT REVIEW: PC VERSION

SIX

A worthwhile experience if not a memorable one.

Deadbolt is good.

Persona 5

(NOT) SHORT REVIEW: PS4 VERSION

NINE

This is a huge game of minute detail and expert craftsmanship. Persona 5 is a technical

masterpiece.

Be prepared to invest a great deal of time into this world if you choose to enter it.

Attack on Titan 2

SHORT REVIEW: PC VERSION

SEVENA solid core game mildly let down by the very concept of computer games.

Deep and superficial all that the same time.

Wipeout: Omega Collection – VR Review

SHORT REVIEW: PS4 VR

9One of the best free updates I’ve ever seen applied to any game. It helps that the original was already pretty damn great.

One of the most intense racers I’ve ever played. Nice one VR.

Shadow of the Colossus 2018

SHORT REVIEW: PS4 VERSION

8

A 10 out of 10 game wearing a coat that says missed opportunity.

Hands up if you wanted a couple of more Colossus thrown into the mix? No… how about a clever idea you wouldn’t have thought of yourself? No.

Erm. Ok, this is the game for you, sir!

Into the Breach

SHORT REVIEW: PC VERSION

8

Into the Breach is the most universal turn based game I’ve ever played. You will feel like a mastermind and doofus, often in the same battle.

The finest strategy game for the twitter generation.

Farpoint

SHORT REVIEW: PS4 VR

8

A simple game enlivened by the virtual world.

Farpoint is a short thrill to show off a shiny new product and the score, is almost certainly too generous. Will be superseded in the near future, but for now…

Kingdom: New Lands

SHORT REVIEW: PC VERSION

7

Not so much of a game, but a time displacement device.

Kingdoms keeps things simple and does just enough to keep you invested.

Everybody’s Golf

SHORT REVIEW: PS4 VERSION

7

An strangely addictive game that easy to put on for ya’ standard short term blast of entertainment.

Mildly let down by a wandering focus on things that simply don’t matter.
